The Premise
Every reality show promises drama, but few have arrived with a scandal already baked into the premise. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives opens in the aftermath of a bombshell: Utah influencer Taylor Frankie Paul had gone viral for admitting that she and her husband had been "soft-swinging" with other couples inside their own friend group — a circle of Mormon mom-influencers known online as "MomTok." What had looked, from the outside, like a wholesome collective of faith-driven content creators turned out to be something far messier, and Hulu built an entire series around watching that unravel in real time.
The show has stuck to that formula ever since. It's part confessional, part morality play, part Real Housewives knockoff — women in modest dresses discussing infidelity, custody battles, and betrayal over brunch, all while their LDS upbringing sits in the background as a kind of moral scoreboard nobody can quite agree on how to read. Four seasons in, it's also become Hulu's most-watched unscripted premiere and an Emmy nominee, which is more than most reality shows about influencer drama can say.
Worth knowing — The show's opening title sequence was filmed on location at the Provo Utah Temple, the same faith backdrop the series spends every season quietly interrogating.
Every baby shower on this show doubles as a battlefield.
The Cast
At the center of it all is Taylor Frankie Paul, whose scandal started the show and whose life has driven nearly every season since. The rest of #MomTok orbits her in shifting alliances that rarely hold for more than a season.

Season One
The first season is the origin story, and it moves fast for only eight episodes. Taylor, already distanced from the group after her scandal broke, gets arrested following a drunken fight with new boyfriend Dakota in the premiere. A year later, she's pregnant with his baby and her parents don't approve — and Whitney skips her baby shower entirely, planting a seed that splits the group for good.
That split hardens when Jen uninvites the show's "sinners" from her baby blessing, and a "truth box" at Mayci's birthday forces some ugly admissions into the open. Whitney formally exits the group chat, then clashes with Jessi at Layla's divorce party. A Vegas trip turns into a fight over controlling husbands, and by the finale, Taylor confronts Dakota, gives birth to their son Ever, and Jen — worn down by the group's dynamics — walks away from MomTok altogether.

Season Two
Season 2 expands the format, and it's where the show finds its real engine: a slow-building coup. Miranda returns hoping to patch things up, right as the cheating rumors about Dakota are confirmed. Zac confronts Demi and Jessi over how they've treated his wife, and a disastrous Chippendales stunt gives way to Mikayla opening up about her chronic illness and Miranda finally coming clean about her role in the original scandal.
A sex-therapist party and a breakup between Taylor and Dakota keep the drama moving, while one episode reveals that Demi was once willing to cut Jessi from the show entirely for a bigger paycheck — a detail that reframes a lot of what comes after. By the back half, Taylor is publicly calling out the group after the CMA Awards while Demi quietly maneuvers to replace her as MomTok's de facto leader. It nearly works: Demi gives the group an ultimatum — her or Taylor — and in the finale, the group votes. The plan backfires. Demi is out, Whitney is voted back in.
Worth knowing — Season 2 was viewed five million times in its first five days on Hulu, nearly matching the entire run of Season 1.

In MomTok, forgiveness has a shelf life of about one season.
Season Three
If Season 2 was about Demi's exit, Season 3 is about the fallout — and a new marriage under the microscope. Affair accusations open the season, and Jessi and Jordan's marriage is soon visibly unraveling as Mikayla and Mayci dig for the truth behind it. One episode raises the possibility that Demi, despite being out of the group, is the one who exposed Jessi's secret in the first place, and a lie detector test escalates things further, splitting the women from their husbands entirely.
Whitney reappears, while Mikayla confronts her own past in an attempt to save her marriage. A Hollywood press tour gives Demi another opening to drop a bombshell, and at Stagecoach, a damning post from Demi collides with Taylor and Dakota quietly rekindling their relationship. Suspicious receipts and a devastating secret surface before a premiere goes off the rails, and the season closes on a shocking intervention, followed by a reunion hosted by Stassi Schroeder.

Season Four
Season 4 is the show at its most ambitious — Dancing with the Stars, a Bachelorette casting, and a group departure all land in the same ten episodes. It opens as two members head off to compete on Dancing with the Stars and a return trip to Vanderpump Villa rattles more than one marriage. Taylor's Bachelorette opportunity then enters the group chat, and the women immediately start questioning her new love interest.
Old wounds resurface, and a trip to LA sees one member leave the group for good while another cements her place in it. A shared discovery briefly unites everyone before success and sacrifice push the group to a breaking point. The husbands and wives face off in a pickleball match even as their marriages strain further, a betrayal forces a group-wide reckoning, and old resentments boil over completely. The finale closes on an addiction storyline coming to light and a no-show dramatic enough to leave the rest of the group scrambling.
By Season 3, "sisterhood" had become the show's most ironic word.
